After learning the track on Thursday, the MKR team set out to find speed on Friday. It was a difficult quest and the team struggled as the day went on. For some reason the kart could not keep up on the long back straight. The kart was awesome in the corners but the team lost time once it got out of the corners. Jared (driver) and David (crew chief) could not agree on the problem. Jared thought he had a weak engine while David felt chassis setup and gearing were the problem. Emotions were high as the team fell further down the speed charts with every adjustment that was made.
A mediocre practice session caused Jared to qualify in the first group but he could only manage to qualify in the 29th position out of 34 entries.
