The final podium.
Once again it was a wet morning. Fortunately the sun would appear in time to dry the track before racing but not in time to save Jared from a wet meeting with the turn one tire wall, eerily similar to a practice incident the week before. Jared finally got some seat time in dry conditions for the first time this year. After struggling in the wet for the past two weeks, Jared was finally pleased with his kart, "Now I remember why I wanted one of these so bad" said Jared at the end of practice.
The #43 kart came off of the first grid in 4th place. After ten laps the final tally came in with three doughnuts on the sidepods, six off road excursions brought on by other drivers and a finishing position of third.
The second heat saw Jared start on the outside pole and the bumpers were beating before the first turn as Jared and the pole sitter made contact on the start. Jared also came around to finish in third.
Again Jared started the third heat in second. The team quickly realized where they stood in the field as once again they finished third. The team began to look for more speed and Jared was looking for the combination from the drivers seat. After driving ten and twenty year old karts for the past six years, there is a lot to unlearn to drive a new kart properly. Jared told his crew chief, "I have quickly found out what makes a ten year old kart work does not make a new kart work".
The team left the kart as is for the feature. Jared kept working to hit new lines and braking points to get better lap times. And when the race was over Jared was more comfortable that ever behind the wheel and he finished the feature in third place.
